Monkeyman Productions first launched their website in March 2010. Over a year and several successful shows later, its content had grown to unwieldy proportions and needed to be reorganised.
I had built the site on WordPress in 2010, so changing the internal structure was simple. We reorganised the navigation menu to suit the growing amount of content, and implemented several plugins for added functionality, such as a photo gallery, a Twitter feed for the company, and a hashtag feed so the company's audience base can interact directly. There are also a few appropriately geeky Easter eggs embedded in the code throughout the site for additional visitor engagement.
The initial design was clutter-free and featured some show photography in the header image, but it was time to upgrade to a look that truly suited the online home of Toronto's geekiest theatre company.
I retained the company's colour scheme in a richer, more textured design with much more focus on their distinctive logo. The front page incorporates show photography from several productions into the logo itself, while the internal pages feature the brand in its original form. A circuitboard background, altered to suit the colour scheme, provides a subtle geeky flavour to every page. The show page, featuring the company's extensive production history, was completely revamped from a basic bulleted list to a showcase of their production art over the years, with plenty of room to grow.
